Lotus flower painting. Ink and watercolours on rice paper. Lotus flowers have a very rich historical and cultural background, with consistent symbolic interpretations: lotuses are viewed as symbols of purity, strength, resilience, and rebirth. They grow through the muddy waters, rise and float above them - beautiful, unstained flowers. Every night, they close up in the murky waters and open up with the dusk. In Buddhism, lotus symbolises the highest spiritual attainment.

In modern Japan, there are many lotus pond parks to admire the lotuses. One of the oldest lotuses in the world is found in a park near Tokyo called Kodaihasu no sato, meaning "the village of old lotus". Some of the flowers in the park were grown from 600-year old seeds.

The painting is signed, sealed, wet-mounted on another sheet of backing rice paper and ready to be framed or mounted on a silk scroll. Please use acid-free adhesives when framing. The painting is manually cut, please leave a few mm error margin for dimensions. Colours may differ due to differences in devices.
